Gifts of Stock
Gifts of securities is a common way to make a donation to the Institute. You can often take a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities as of the date of transfer and avoid capital gains associated with the sale.

Life Income Gifts

Charitable Gift Annuities
With a one-time gift of $10,000 or more, you are eligible to receive an income for life. The rate of return on a charitable gift annuity is determined by the age and number of lives, or designated beneficiaries at the time of the agreement. This chart illustrates a potential rate of return, and annual income for a one-life annuity based on a $10,000 initial investment. Any tax savings will be based on date of gift.
Age You Receive Annually Rate
60 $570 5.7%
70 $650 6.5%
80 $800 8.0%
90 $1130 11.3%

This is a one-time, irrevocable gift to the New Hampshire Institute of Art. The gift may be made in the form of cash, check, stock, or property.

Charitable Trusts
The New Hampshire Institute of Art can be designated the beneficiary of a charitable trust. Unlike the charitable gift annuity, the charitable trust normally is established in a trust document prepared by the donor's attorney. The Institute may be the sole beneficiary, or one of many beneficiaries.

There are two types of charitable trusts: the charitable remainder trust, and the charitable lead trust. The difference between the two is that the charitable remainder trust pays the donor an income for life, while the charitable lead trust pays the charity an income for a specified number of years, after which the trust returns to the donor's family or other beneficiaries.

While there are two types of trusts, there also are two types of charitable remainder trusts: the charitable remainder unitrust and the charitable remainder annuity trust. Each calculates income and tax savings to the donor on a different basis.

Bequests
The New Hampshire Institute of Art has benefited from several important and thoughtful bequests, especially those of the French and Fuller families that created the endowment, which sustains the Institute.

Donors can leave a portion of an estate (a percentage), specific items, or an entire estate to the Institute. The New Hampshire Institute of Art would be pleased to work with you and your financial advisor to design a bequest that will benefit art education for all of New Hampshire.

Several naming opportunities are available to those wishing to create a legacy at the New Hampshire Institute of Art.

Sample Bequest Language:
I give and bequeath to the New Hampshire Institute of Art, whose legal address is 148 Concord Street, Manchester, NH 03104, the sum of $__________ (or, ____% of my residuary estate) for such purposes as the New Hampshire Institute of Art shall determine are in the best interests of the Institute (or for a specific purpose as I shall designate in agreement with the New Hampshire Institute of Art).

Matching Gifts
Many companies and organizations match donated made by employees to non-profit organizations. Matching Gift programs are a great way to double your contribution. For more information, contact your company’s human resource department.

Scholarships
At the New Hampshire Institute of Art, over 70% of our student population received financial support from one or more of the college’s scholarship funds. Scholarships are awarded based on need or merit of a combination of both.

An endowed scholarship fund may be created with a minimum gift of $10,000. Once the fund is named and eligibility criteria established, an annual scholarship from the interest earned is awarded, while the remaining earnings are reinvested in the principal. In this manner the award will grow each year as earnings accrue.

In-Kind Donations
Donations of books, supplies, artwork and services is always appreciated and may provide you with select tax benefits.

The New Hampshire Institute of Art is pleased to accept collections and individual works of art. The value of the gift is determined by current tax laws and donors should seek independent appraisals when claiming a tax deduction for gifts of art, books, or other non-cash contributions.

With limited exhibition space, the Institute may retain selected works, but sell others to create a named fund, or to support the retained collection.
