Furniture Making Philosophy

The New Hampshire Institute of Furniture Making has formed a partnership with the New Hampshire Institute of Art to establish a Certificate in Furniture Making. This program is offered in conjunction with the Studio- Based Learning Program. Through the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Certificate students take a series of required studio and lecture course designed to facilitate work done in the Studio-Based Learning Program. Students interested in earning a Certificate in Furniture Making must apply to both the Institute’s Certificate Program and the Studio-Based Learning Program.

The Studio-based Learning Program

This is a studio-based apprenticeship that allows students the opportunity to work in a wide range of Furniture Masters’ studios across New Hampshire and thus gain knowledge of a diverse range of furniture design techniques. The program strives to achieve a healthy balance between providing flexibility for the individual student apprentice while simultaneously allowing him or her to gain mastery of the requisite design and technical skills needed to be a professional furniture maker. The New Hampshire Institute of Furniture Making seeks self-motivated individuals who demonstrate a commitment to studio furniture making as a potential career. Students interested in the Studio-Based Learning Program must apply to the New Hampshire Institute of Furniture Making.
