Each year in the last week of June, art educators from around the nation are invited to participate in the Art Educators Summer Institute. The weeklong program enables each art teacher to earn 30 points of studio time towards recertification requirements. Educators are housed in campus residence spaces and are provided most meals throughout the program.
Teachers select two workshops from several medium options. Past workshops: Advanced Digital Imaging, Figure Drawing, Landscape Painting, Metalsmithing& Jewelry, Advanced Drawing Techniques, Beginning Digital Imaging, Ceramics, Painting with James Aponovich and Printmaking. Morning and afternoon workshops provide instruction with Institute faculty while studios are open each night to provide individual working time.
Optional evening activities are planned throughout the week which, in the past, has included a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Zimmerman House, a Millyard historical overview by Chairperson of Photography, Gary Samson, and a lecture about Modern and Contemporary art given by Sharon Atkins, Assistant Curator of the Currier Museum of Art.
